Fabric can now be made sustainably thanks to new specific production systems. Let us bring you at the heart of our clothing manufacturing processes at 4KIDS and discover how we build our ethical children clothing brand.
Â
All our clothing pieces are made out of an eco-friendly fibre produced from recycled plastic bottles. At first sight, it might be hard to imagine how a plastic bottle can become a comfy and trendy clothing fabric, especially if it’s meant to be worn by children. Surprisingly, the production process is not that complicated. We’re talking about 5 steps, that’s it.Â
1. LET'S RECYCLEThe first step is to recycle plastic bottles. Even though those are less used nowadays thanks to the popular growth of water bottles, they remain a big problem for our planet and a common good purchased on a daily basis. This amount of plastic bottles still used is kept and sorted in order to recycle them correctly and use them for other purposes.

2. SHREDDING INTO FLAKESOnce the bottles are recycled and processed, those need to be cleaned to ensure a great plastic quality. This plastic will then be eligible for clothing manufacturing. The cleaned plastic will then be transformed into flakes, which are small pieces of plastic. This step is crucial because it will ease the next production procedure.

3. MELTING INTO GRAINS
Thanks to the flakes produced, it is now possible to crush them into tinier pieces of plastic, also called plastic grains. Those grains are obtained from the melting process of the plastic flakes. Those tiny pieces of plastic are way smaller than the flakes and will help create the desired clothing fibre.Â
4. CREATING RECYCLED FIBRE
Once more, the grains must be melted in order for it to become single threads. That’s where and when the recycled fibre will be produced.Â
5. MAKING FABRIC
The last step is not that much of a secret, it is now time for the fabric weaving with the recycled threads obtained earlier.Â
This transformation of recycled plastic bottles is what makes it possible for 4KIDS to offer sustainable, eco-friendly and gender neutral clothing for your children. The fabric created out of the plastic is of great quality and remains as comfy as any other fabrics used in the fashion industry, if not more. Your children can be assured they will stay cosy all day long in their 4KIDS clothes. You can learn more by visiting our sustainability page.
